Western Union connects with the Caribbean community at Jambana, Jerkfest and JamDay in 2016

Jambana Booth (2016)

August 8, 2016

At this year’s Jambana One World Festival and JerkFest in Toronto, and JamDay in Ottawa, Western Union continued its tradition of sponsoring these amazing events in the Caribbean community, and was there to eat, dance and have a blast with partiers from across the city, country, and even around the world!

Jambana was a hit in Markham

Jambana took place July 31 to August 1 at the Markham Fairgrounds in Markham, Ontario, where Western Union sponsored the Jambana Idol competition. Congratulations to Omar, who finished in third spot and won a $400 prize; Jessica, who finished in second place with a $600 prize; and Albino, who won the competition and the coveted $1,000 first prize!

Idol performers submitted 60-second videos of their acts to JAMBANA in July, along with many other hopefuls, and, after making the final cut, had the opportunity to perform in front of thousands at the Fairgrounds. Congratulations to everyone who submitted their video entries and the top three finalists!

If you didn’t get the chance to make it to this year’s JAMBANA Idol concert, take a look at these entry videos to see some of the amazing performers that participated in the contest this year.

Jerk chicken on the menu in Etobicoke

One week later, from August 5 to 7, Western Union was at JerkFest at Centennial Park in Etobicoke to help celebrate some of the best in Caribbean food including amazing jerk chicken, of course (!) and music including Etana, Third World, Full Sound, Spice Island Performers, Pan Fantasy, DLyfe, and Level Exodus.

Caribbean music, food and dancing in Ottawa

That same weekend, Western Union was also at JamDay in Ottawa! JamDay brought the Jamaican community together on August 6 at Mooney’s Bay Park, with live music, Jamaican and Caribbean food, and traditional dancing. Western Union ambassadors were there to help celebrate 54 years of Jamaican independence along with thousands of other guests all day and well into the night!

Our ambassadors were on stage regularly throughout the event, handing out noise-makers and other give-aways to help everyone show their appreciation for the amazing singers and live performers. Thanks to everyone who attended JamDay – we had a fantastic time and are looking forward to seeing you again next summer!
